It didn’t rain,
but the dew here is so thick that the deck looks like it rained, and even a
couple of the leaks into the house wake up too.
There was some fog as well. It
was the firs day of the two day fishing derby, so there were a few anglers
heading out in the early morning to catch the tide.
We busied
ourselves with the remaining clean-up chores, and I spent time working on the
aft head, which has malfunctioned again.
It’s not one of my favorite things to fix, so I won’t expound on the
details here – I’ll just say it’s good to have another head on the boat for
situations like this.
Laura and Lynn
were scheduled to arrive today on Kenmore Air.
I walked over to the seaplane float around their scheduled arrival time
of 12:30 and asked when the Kenmore flight was
expected. “Not due until between 1:30
and 2:30”, said the marina manager. I
started walking back to the boat, and within 5 minutes I heard the turboprop in
the distance and saw the Kenmore colors on the
incoming seaplane. Our guests arrived
only a few minutes late. They brought
some extra luggage, with treats such as cheese, steaks, hamburger, some
magazines from our mail, which was being collected by our neighbor Colleen, and
most importantly, a couple gallon Zip Loc bags of kitty litter for Tribble, who
was most appreciative, whether she knew it or not.
| Rebecca and Erin admire the halibut catch |
We had invited
John and Rebecca to join us for dinner this evening, but at the time had no
specific plans as to what the menu would be.
They did their fishing for the derby in the early afternoon and came
back with a couple of halibut, the larger one weighing in at 19 pounds. Rebecca was cleaning their fish at the
community fish cleaning station, and the conversation came up among some of the
other fishermen about how they didn’t care for halibut cheeks. Well, those halibut cheeks didn’t go to waste
– Rebecca skillfully extracted them from the other halibut carcasses as well as
their own, and gave them to Erin . That became the main course for our dinner
tonight. We had a wonderful dinner with
great conversation this evening, including a few fish tales. We had our log books here from some of our
previous trips, and opening the book from our last trip to the Broughtons it
fell open to the day we arrived at Dickson
Island where Trav and
Barb were rafted up with John and Rebecca.
The bearings had just started going out on one of our turbo chargers,
making quite a whine, and the log entry referred to getting an opinion and
advice from John. This led to many more
boating tales, and a perusal of the repower book, which John took back to their
boat to review.
We played cards
late into the evening with Lynn and Laura, playing a game Lynn brought called “Phase 10” – kinda
rummy-like, but not really.
We most likely
will go somewhere and anchor tomorrow afternoon, maybe nearby where we can do
some crabbing. We have no specific
plans, so we can’t go wrong.
