July 16, 2013 ~ Prideaux Haven

We did plenty of traveling the past two days, so this was a day to just enjoy our surroundings.  I woke up early, and got a few pictures of the sunrise over the mountains surrounding the harbor.  Later in the morning we went for an extensive dinghy ride, taking 2 or 3 hours to explore many of the small lagoons and nooks that are part of this harbor complex.  One of the lagoons is where we had found a bunch of sand dollars on a previous trip, but this morning’s low tide was at a plus 5.5 feet and we were a bit late for even that so we missed out on much of the low tide experience.

The weather continues to be phenomenal.  Today reached the low 80’s, but it was really muggy.  We have curtains on either side of our salon for blocking the sunlight to keep it a bit cooler, but none on the forward facing windows.  We taped up some dish towels in a makeshift attempt to keep it as cool as possible in here, and it seemed to work.  One of these years we’ll wise up and devise some sort of covering for those windows.

We’ve been marinating some boneless chicken thighs for a couple of days – Erin picked them up in Nanaimo while shopping at the Thrifty Mart.  Today was the day to cook them on the barbecue, after which they were accompanied by mashed potatoes and corn on our plates.

We buzzed around in the dinghy late this evening, mainly to get some breeze on ourselves, as we were otherwise in a dead calm situation.  I left the dinghy down, as we’ll probably be using it again tomorrow morning.  That’s probably why it’s sprinkling now as I write this.
